3D Rendering in Product Photography

What is 3D rendering in product photography? In general it is a digital process using a 3D CAD software. I use it if the object has been damaged and the shot has been taken in ambient light and it has been not properly lit. The result is a rendered image that is hard to distinguish from a photograph of a real-life object.

I attached the picture to illustrate the results of photography 3D rendering process.
